With tough economic conditions prevailing even before the devastating impact of Covid-19, independent publishers everywhere are looking at ways to reduce expenditure while continuing to offer high-quality content to their communities.
With one eye on future scalability and growth, MarketingTech have partnered with Publisher’s Toolbox , digital platform specialists with a commitment to supporting independent publishers through their digital platform solutions.
MarketingTech’s team of content professionals were looking for a solution that would allow them to standardise future development and editorial workflow of the MarketingTech website, having become dissatisfied with their existing web platform, which was custom build, meaning code would need to be written when feature updates were required – driving up operational costs and hampering editorial workflow.
“We had to use an external contractor to make design and development changes to our site,” said Steve Jones, MarketingTech’s head of design and development. “As a result they were neglected and became slow and visually dated.”
Publisher’s Toolbox worked with Marketing Tech to implement the latest, industry-recommended WordPress Gutenberg theme and supporting plugins to replace the existing solution. By migrating their website to an off-the-shelf WordPress CMS and plugin framework, the Marketing Tech editorial team now has the agility they craved to add functionality in a modular fashion, simplify workflow while avoiding vendor lock-in.
“We had regular check-ins to monitor progress and they were very responsive to any questions or changes that we needed to make,” said Jones. “Publisher’s Toolbox has been really helpful making sure I’m up to speed to take over the management of the site.”
Going forward, Publisher’s Toolbox will continue to work with MarketingTech in an advisory capacity to help facilitate further digital optimisation.
“We’d excited to welcome MarketingTech to our digital ecosystem,” said Publisher’s Toolbox CEO Rich Cheary. “We believe they share our mindset when it comes to the value of digital platform innovation as a means to growing and sustaining the Marketing Tech community. We’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this relationship and how we can work together to impart further value to Marketing Tech and the wider Techforge media landscape with our toolbox of digital products.”
